Our Energy Projects

Jeffreys Bay Wind Farm

Jeffreys Bay Wind Farm

Client: Murray & Roberts

Location: Jeffreys Bay, Eastern Cape, RSA

Spanning 3 700 hectares between Jeffreys Bay and Humansdorp, the site's strong wind conditions, flat topography, minimal environmental constraints and proximity to the 132 kV Eskom grid line made it an ideal wind energy resource. Developed under the REIPPPP, the project signed a 20-year Power Purchase Agreement with Eskom and an Implementation Agreement with the Department of Energy.

Construction began in December 2012 and the project reached Commercial Operations Date in mid-2014. The wind farm supplies 460 000 MWh per year — enough clean energy for 100 000 average South African households — reducing annual carbon emissions by 420 000 tonnes and lifetime emissions by 8 400 000 tonnes.

Jasper Solar 96 MW Solar PV Plant

Jasper Solar 96 MW Solar PV Plant

Client: Tsantsabane Local Municipality

Location: Postmasburg, Northern Cape, RSA

Situated east of Postmasburg in the Northern Cape Solar Area, the Jasper PV Plant comprises 39 units of 2 MWac Ingeteam central inverter stations, each made up of two 1 019 kW inverters. WorleyParsons was appointed as Owner's Engineer by Solar Reserve for the 96 MWac PV project.

Selected in the second round of the REIPPP, the scope covered preliminary design, design review, and project management and construction supervision of work carried out by the EPC Iberdrola–Group 5 Consortium. The project was named the 2015 EMEA Best Renewable Energy Project of the Year.

Kaxu Solar One 100 MW Concentrated Solar Plant

Kaxu Solar One 100 MW Concentrated Solar Plant

Client: Kaxu Solar One 100 MW Solar Thermal Plant

Location: Pofadder, Northern Cape, RSA

An EPCM contract for a 100 MW Concentrated Solar Power plant using parabolic trough collector technology with a molten salts thermal energy storage system, located roughly 50 km north-east of Pofadder. The plant tracks the sun east to west, concentrating direct irradiance and converting it into thermal energy.

Thermal energy is transferred through a closed Heat Transfer Fluid circuit to produce steam driving a 100 MW steam turbine, with electricity exported to the grid via a high-voltage substation. The storage system extends generation for the equivalent of 2.5 hours at nominal capacity after sunset.

Lake Kivu Bulk Earthworks

Lake Kivu Bulk Earthworks

Client: Shema Power

Location: Rwanda

The project developed gas extraction facilities to deliver methane gas from Lake Kivu to on-shore facilities for processing and subsequent use in gas engines for power generation. It comprised a civil works contract for bulk earthworks with an option for concrete foundation works, gas extraction and processing design and construction including associated civil works, and power generation design and construction including associated civil works.
